The approach is dead easy (see Lake O'Hara and Lake Oesa), but the ascent is no small potatoes. We were a mixed group from beginner mountaineers to beginner hikers. The scree was an intimidating size, where sliding backwards a little felt terrifying, since the rocks have the illusion of gaining momentum; however, it was safe. The path is well marked, but following it is really optional. Pick the scree size you want (from small boulders to loose gravel) and travel up up up. We expected a 100m loose scree. It was much more like a long 600m technical scramble/slide combo. The hut at the top is a true gem. You can book it through the ACC, but it requires a little planning. The facillities are complete and wonderful. Warm, cozy, and spacious. No bad smells. Love it!
