Backpack to Glacier Basin, camped one night on snow.
A very hot weekend. Trailhead was at 81F. Elevation about 4500'.
We detour to Moraine trail. Short and sweet.
2-3 miles later, we hit snow. But passable without any traction devices, as long as you are careful.
Glacier Basin is a worthy destination to itself. At about 6000', it's broad (probably flowers in summer), a rushing river, half circled in mountains.
There're 5 sites, 2 big bear cans in the camping area. However, there was too much snow here, that we couldn't find a good spot to camp. Opted to be out of the trees. And that's actually better. Great view of the basin, as well as a small creek (steep).
Sunset here is not a good idea, because the sun sets on the other side of the mountain, and you don't get to see it.
Sunday, we hiked (with crampons) up to the Steamboat Prow of Interglacier, just above Camp Schumann. Elevation at about 10000'. Stunning view!!! Snow is soft, and slope is not too steep. I glissaded down in minutes. The longest ride I ever did. Was fun and safe.
