6 of us + 2 dogs camped at Lunch Counter on Saturday evening. Miserable night, due to strong wind. Forecast was 35mph, and clear sky. But we were in a whiteout, howling wind, misty if not drizzled. Wind kicked off little ice through tent mesh, making everything wet. My tent was ripped at one place, one stake got loose.
We packed up Sunday around 6am, and hiked down in cloud. Of course, by the time we reached our car, the sky was blue, and no clouds. The updated forecast predicts 10mph for the next 48 hours!
Learned some lessons. Got home safe. Both very important.
Current condition:
Road is rough (high clearance vehicle is recommended). Lots of cars on this (or any) weekend with a sunny forecast. Difficult to find a good parking spot. Still some snow on the road (expected to melt this week). The trail is mostly snow, from quite early on.
