I was ecstatic to wake up to a clear blue sky on the day of my ascent. I hiked through the forest in fresh snow marveling at how different my familiar places looked, then dazzled in white. As I climbed into the higher branches, the silence of the surrounding virgin snow enveloped me, and I felt the expanse and lift of the land. Range upon range of mountains stretched into the measureless distance. In the sky, a faint white light was shimmering. It grew brighter, changed to a shade of purple, then pink. Standing there in that fresh mountain air, I fell in love with the extraordinary and rugged beauty of the snowy mountains.
It was peaceful out there, listening to the sounds of the wild, watching the sunrise, I was completely relaxed, drowsy from the sun. It was also pleasant to sit on snow and let the peace wash over. I felt joy and indomitable spirit every step of the way. I experienced miracles every movement for a summit push. The view high up was breathtaking. The moment helps me to appreciate more deeply the many beautiful gifts that Mother Nature brings to us through her openness and wisdom.
