We bagged Sigurd peak on Sunday July 26, 2020, 1900 m net elevation gain, 2125 m cumulative elevation gain, 14 km return, about 13 hours car to car. The first part of the Sigurd trail until the turnoff to Crooked Falls is well maintained and has a moderate incline. After the intersection of Sigurd (Ossa/Pelion) and Rose (Sigurd peak), the Rose trail to Sigurd peak becomes very steep and rugged crossing over some fallen trees occasionally, but is well marked to the ridge. Nearly 1500 m of elevation is gained in the steep forest. There are no sources of water until snow patches in mid upper ridge and at the summit. There were hoards of bugs on the trail. Trail markers on the ridge are not always easily seen. We lost the trail on the ridge a couple of times and had to retrace our steps looking for markers. There are a few easy-moderate mostly Class 2 scrambling sections with no exposure, if you stay on the trail. If you go off trail, you may find yourself doing some exposed scrambling, as there are cliffs on both sides of the ridge. It's important to follow markers on the ridge. There were a few snow patches on the ridge in late July, that we crossed without crampons, as the snow was still soft and easy to walk on. The trail mostly avoids these snow patches except near the summit block, where you have to cross a wide snow field with a cornice. We brought trail crampons, but did not use them in late July, as we did not feel they were necessary. There are breathtaking 360 panoramic views at the summit with Ossa and Pelion stealing the show. The Ashlu Creek Main road is well maintained and does not require 4x4. You cannot drive all the way to the trailhead, as there is no parking there. There is about 1 km distance from the parking along the Squamish river to the Sigurd trail head.
