Whistler Train Wreck

Kerri and I decided to take a small jaunt in the snow today up to Whistler. I wanted to see how the jeep would handle on the roads up there as well before taking off for a long venture and getting stuck. Good news...the roads weren't that bad and the jeep handled wonderfully. I did have to pop it into 4x4 on part of the roadway and when parking...you'll see that pic :) We were the first to park in a totally uncleared lot and I was a bit nervous but...we did it. I also brought a shovel and cables/chains just in case. Just a tip...always back in when parking. You never know if you're going to get stuck.
The trail was paved already so lucky us. However, to my relief, there were very few people. It was beautiful. I much preferred this to Dog mtn although I wish it were longer. Its almost worth planning 2 treks in the same day if you're up for it when doing this one. Maybe Cheakakmus River or something. Everything was polar white and the snow was light and fluffy. Like walking in the clouds. Although there were a couple signs along the way I always think its a good idea to bring a gps on snow treks. Especially if you are the one paving the way. You can always put your backtracking on in the event you lose your way. Once at the box cars you'll notice there are 2 missing from the cluster. We headed South a bit until we found the other 2 as we felt a bit adventurous. :) There are 7 box cars in total. We did have to pave this trail through and be careful if you're doing this as there are flat spots that hide under new snow which could be water hazards. We noticed this as we were trekking through. All and all its a very short easy trail with few hills.
It left me with a bit of an eerie feeling. Kind of strange that this once known as a tragedy is a cool little place to visit. A now tourist attraction.
This was a fun little adventure and a good way for me to do some driving homework as I haven't been up there much in the snow. Its also a great beginners trail for someone getting use to their snowshoes.
