Second day of an overnight trip.
Started from Eaton Lake around 10 am.
Trail starts right from the camp and first part in the forest is almost vertical. It's well marked, but you have to really follow marks or have an exceptional route-finding skills.
I followed Matt Gunn's description for East Summit - decided it's safer for a solo trip than West Summit. Above the tree line there are enough cairns to follow - bear left for 'easier' ascend through some talus and grassy slopes (or continue through boulder slopes, if that is your thing).
There are some small snow fields to cross as you go higher.
Once on a southeast ridge, the fun begins. While Mount Grant was mostly hiking, Eaton does require some scrambling. Matt suggests to continue heading southeast about 500m to an easy gully, but I started scrambling way before that and got on one of the sub-summit, where I can walk towards West Summit to a gap between East and West summits.
Sunday was a bit cloudy compare to Saturday, but views were still fantastic in all directions.
Descending was easier (may be as I brought poles this time).
It took me about 3 hours to ascend and 2 hours to descend back to the lake.
Going down from the lake on a proper trail was a relieve compare to descending from either Peaks. Probably took about two hours.
Overall it was a great October weekend. I will definitely return again for the West Summit and may be explore East part more.
