This is part of a 3 day trip. We camped at West Oval Lake.
Day 1: drive (4+ hours from Seattle), set up camp at West Oval Lake for 2 nights. Hike to Middle Oval Lake and back. TH to camp is ~7.3 miles. About 2 miles between the 2 lakes, and you need to gain about 800' up to a ridge and drop down to the other lake.
Day 2: my hiking partner and I did different routes. I visited Grey Peak, Courtney Peak, Star Lake and Tuckaway Lake.
Day 3: hike out.
Condition: larches are in peak color. A lot of them.
Climbing condition:
1) Grey Peak is super easy. You can access from west or east. I went up from north (not the best), and down east slope.
2) I traversed Courtney Peak west to east, which is not a good idea. Its western slope is bad. East is easy, and south is not bad. My friend went up the east slope and down the south side.
3) Star Peak and Oval Peak. According to my hiking partner, Oval is more difficult, mostly because of the long approach. She didn't mention any serious danger. But again, she's more experienced than me. I may find it difficult.
Maps: I used Gaia Map, which has quite a few errors. Even Caltopo map has errors. Maybe Green Map is only reliable source.
We used Eagle/Oval Creek trailhead. If you just want to climb the peaks, West Buttermilk Creek TH might be better.
