DIRECTIONS: Drive to Exit 45 on I-90 and continue to FSR 9031 (unpaved, but in good condition). A parking lot is at the end of this road (don't make any turns). NW Forest Pass is required for parking. Alpine wilderness permit should be filled in (one per group).create
SUMMARY: Trail starts as an old logging road - wide and with a gentle grade. A couple switchbacks later you have a choice to continue on the main trail (good views to Mount Rainer) or go on an old (unmaintained) trail following Mason Creek. Mason Creek trail is fast and short, but very steep, no switchbacks at all. From Mason Lake you can continue to Mount Defiance too. Or if you turn before Mason Lake you can go to Bandera Mountain. There are a few camping spots around the lake (free) if you want to spend the night. Blueberries are abundant in late summer. Other lakes around are also very pretty and warm enough for a swim.create

Nice after work hike. Started at 6, was swimming in the lake by 8, came back to the trailhead after the sunset.
